Denman committee advances Official Community Plan and land-use bylaw

The committee gives third reading to proposed Bylaw 185 and second reading, as amended, to proposed Bylaw 186, sending the plan onward for approval consideration.

The Denman Island Local Trust Committee gives third reading to proposed Bylaw No. 185, the “Denman Island Official Community Plan, 2008,” and refers it to the Executive Committee for approval consideration. 1 It also forwards the proposed bylaw to the Minister of Community Development. 1

The committee instructs staff to amend Bylaw 185 in six places, including deleting the phrase “conditional on an environmental assessment” from Section D2, Policy 18. 1

The committee gives second reading, as amended, to proposed Bylaw No. 186, the “Denman Island Land Use Bylaw, 2008.” 1 The amendment replaces the numerals “3(2)” with “3(1)” in Section 4.4, Guideline 3, point 3. 1

Regional Planning Manager David Marlor says the proposed co-housing bylaw conflicts with proposed Bylaw 186 if Bylaw 186 is passed, because the co-housing bylaw is based on the current Land Use Bylaw. 1

The committee also requests staff to invite BC Ferry Services Inc. to host a Community Information Meeting about its rezoning application. 1 A motion requesting staff to prepare a draft bylaw for that application fails unanimously. 1
