Staff will prepare a further report on the Farm Plan Implementation Project, addressing information received so far and providing alternative definitions of “feedlot,” after the Denman Island Local Trust Committee requested the work at its August 7 meeting.[1]

Trustees’ questions for staff included what activities would be allowed in residential zones under the proposed changes, whether subsistence farming would be affected, and what rules would apply to sewage and rainwater cisterns for secondary dwellings.[1]

The committee also asked staff to examine questions raised in a referral from the Growers & Producers Alliance, including how definitions of farming and agriculture could affect activities in residential zones and how proposed agri-tourism and housing options could apply to farms outside the Agricultural Land Reserve.[1]

Trustees requested that staff arrange for a Ministry of Agriculture staff member to take part by telephone at the next committee meeting to discuss definitions and concepts related to the project.[1]

The minutes record public comments urging the committee to remove cannabis from the proposed definition of “Intensive Agriculture” and to consider cannabis regulations as a separate project.[1]
