Denman trustees stop work on proposed Bylaw 201

The Local Trust Committee directs staff to add a bylaw-enforcement discussion to a meeting in 18 months.

The Denman Island Local Trust Committee proceeds no further with proposed Bylaw No. 201, the “Denman Island Local Trust Committee Bylaw Enforcement Notification Bylaw, No. 201, 2011,” after the Bylaw Enforcement Manager recommends cancelling it. ^[1]

The committee also instructs staff to add “Discussion of Bylaw Enforcement” to a Denman Island Local Trust Committee business meeting in 18 months’ time. ^[1]

Chair David Graham says adoption of the proposed bylaw does not reflect the current needs of the community after the committee hears from the community several times on the issue. ^[1]

The minutes record discussion of community-driven tools for mediation and communication. Islands Trust bylaw-enforcement policies continue to apply in cases involving environmental concerns or serious problems, and the committee notes that enforcement of a regulation preventing a second dwelling from being used as a vacation-home rental affects affordable housing. ^[1]
