Denman trustees advance secondary-suite and dwelling-unit review

The Denman Island Local Trust Committee directs staff to consider amendments that could facilitate secondary suites and secondary dwelling units, including moveable units and Temporary Use Permits for secondary dwelling units. The motion carried at the October 22 meeting. ^[1]

The committee also directs staff to consider amendments to the Denman Island Official Community Plan to allow secondary suites and secondary dwelling units in Rural and Sustainable Resource land designations. ^[1]

The committee adds the Denman Community Land Trust Association Rural Affordable Housing Project Final Report to its Projects List, with the activity listed as “Consideration of recommendations.” ^[1]

The committee directs staff to remove “including visitor accommodation” from the Housing Regulations Review Project Charter’s “In Scope” column. Trustee David Graham says the initial work is on secondary cottages and suites, and that short-term vacation rentals are not permitted. ^[1]

The committee also renews Standing Resolution No. DE-041-2012 through December 31, 2014. ^[1]
