Denman trustees move marijuana production amendments to top priority

The Denman Island Local Trust Committee moves “Marijuana Production Bylaw Amendments” to item 3 on its Top Priorities list and directs staff to provide information on limiting marijuana production, minimum lot size, setbacks and screening. ^[1]

The committee also instructs the Bylaw Enforcement Manager to report on the horticulture infrastructure Bylaw Enforcement file on Baikie Road, addressing licensing issues. ^[1]

Planner Rob Milne says he understands that a licence is in process and that the use is for medical marijuana, but says he cannot provide details. ^[1]

The decisions follow public concerns about noise, odour, unsightliness, water and contamination. The minutes say the committee considers a review and possible bylaw changes appropriate. ^[1]

Trustees suggest the information could include a review of the definition of horticulture, other jurisdictions’ approaches and possible limits on the amount of growth permitted. ^[1]
