Denman trustees schedule community meetings on beach-driving bylaw

The meetings will include scientific information, shellfish growers and the K’omoks First Nation before further discussion of proposed Bylaw No. 207.

The Denman Island Local Trust Committee requests a Community Information Meeting on proposed Bylaw No. 207, with scientific information and speakers addressing the need for regulation of driving on the beach. Staff are also asked to invite the Shellfish Growers Association, shellfish growers known to use vehicles on the beach and the K’omoks First Nation. [1]

The committee also requests a separate meeting with representatives of the K’omoks First Nation to discuss the proposed bylaw. [1]

Trustees ask staff to engage a facilitator for the Community Information Meeting. [1]

    DE-2016-029 It was MOVED and SECONDED, that the Denman Island Local Trust Committee request staff to arrange a Community Information Meeting with regard to Bylaw No. 207, such meeting to include information including scientific information and to include persons who can speak to the need for a regulation of driving on the beach and to specifically invite the Shellfish Growers Association and the shellfish growers who are known to currently use vehicles on the beach and encourage them to bring any documentation that might be useful and to invite the K’omoks First Nation.
