Denman trustees approve variances for BC Ferries terminal upgrades

The Denman Island Local Trust Committee approved two Development Variance Permits for BC Ferries terminal upgrades at its September 20 meeting. The proposal covers replacement and upgrades to existing terminal buildings and sewage disposal fields at Denman West Terminal and Gravelly Bay Terminal, with variances for siting within the minimum setback from the natural boundary of the sea. ^[1]

Trustees concluded that site constraints and failing septic systems warranted approval of the variances. ^[1]

The committee also approved a Temporary Use Permit for a secondary dwelling for a family member, for three years from the date of issuance, subject to written confirmation that the dwelling will connect to an approved sewerage system. ^[1]

Trustees approved a request for staff to review bylaws and recommend ways to harmonize them to reduce costs and unnecessary applications. ^[1]

On Farm Plan Implementation, the committee defeated a proposal to refer the project to the Advisory Planning Commission and approved a request for a staff report presenting process options and possible priorities from Farm Plan sections 11, 13 and 14. ^[1]
