The Denman Island Local Trust Committee gives first reading to proposed amendments to the Official Community Plan and Land Use Bylaw and requests that staff schedule public hearings for both bylaws. [1]
The amendments are part of a housekeeping project that includes the definition of “intensive agriculture” and corrections to inaccuracies and omissions in the Development Permit Area 4 mapping schedule. Trustees request more background on whether regulations regarding feedlots are adequate. [1]
The committee also asks staff to report on current restrictions for “intensive agriculture,” how those restrictions could potentially apply to feedlots, and draft amendments for consideration. [1]
The draft bylaws are referred to the Ministry of Community, Sport and Cultural Development; the Ministry of Forests, Lands and Natural Resource Operations (Ecosystems Branch); the Agricultural Land Commission; School District No. 71; and K’omoks First Nation for comment. [1]
The committee adopts a revised Farm Plan Implementation project charter, deletes minimum-lot-size amendments from the project’s “Out of Scope” section and changes the budget to $3,500. It also refers the proposed Official Community Plan and Land Use Bylaw amendments to the Advisory Planning Commission and the Farm Plan Implementation staff report to the Denman Growers & Producers Alliance for comment.
