The Denman Island Local Trust Committee asks staff to report back on establishing an “affordable housing first” policy for applications, including, if possible, steps taken by the Salt Spring Island Local Trust Committee. [1]

The request follows a presentation from the Denman Community Land Trust Association on its Seniors’ Affordable Housing project. The association also asks the committee to consider reducing fees and cost-recovery charges for applications for affordable housing. [1]

Trustees suggest that the association might apply to the Executive Committee for an application fee sponsorship waiver, and say the proposed policy warrants further investigation and consideration. [1]

The committee also requests staff to investigate strategies to limit harmful impacts of geoduck aquaculture in the Trust Area and obtain legal clarification on whether local trust committees may prohibit geoduck cultivation through a zoning-bylaw exception. [1]

The committee’s next regular meeting is scheduled for June 6, 2017, at 9:30 am at the Denman Activity Centre. [1]
