At its August 1 meeting, the Denman Island Local Trust Committee heard differing views on Fisheries and Oceans Canada’s beach-cleanup initiative. [1]

A member of the public said the initiative would not solve escaped aquaculture equipment and suggested adding education for operators. [1]

A representative of the Association for Denman Island Marine Stewards said the group opposed a plan relying on vehicles driving on the beach and preferred a dumpster at Buckley Bay. Another member of the public said recycling collected equipment back to operators was preferable to dumping. [1]
