Comments at the Denman Island Local Trust Committee’s August meeting raised differing views on a Fisheries and Oceans Canada beach-cleanup initiative.[1]
A member of the public said the cleanup would not solve escaped aquaculture equipment and suggested adding an educational component for operators.[1]
A representative of the Association for Denman Island Marine Stewards said the group did not support a plan relying on vehicles driving on the beach and suggested a dumpster at Buckley Bay instead.[1]
Another member of the public said recycling equipment collected during cleanup back to operators was preferable to dumping.[1]
