At its May 2 meeting, the Denman Local Trust Committee heard a public comment that questioned the Farm Plan’s treatment of water and its relationship to the Ministry of Agriculture.[1] The speaker said the plan should be considered in light of Denman’s Official Community Plan and the Islands Trust mandate and policy statement.[1]

Another public comment questioned why farmers were not advising on the Farm Plan implementation project, asked why development permit areas were outside the review, and objected that the Farm Plan map differed from maps presented in court.[1]

Staff and trustees responded that a call for farmers to join a special steering committee had not received enough response, that development permit areas could be considered in a future phase, and that the committee could decide whether to refer to the Farm Plan map.[1]
