At its October 3 meeting, the Denman Island Local Trust Committee heard opposing views on proposed Bylaw No. 225, which concerns aquaculture. One speaker opposed referring the bylaw to all aquaculture tenure holders, saying an information note already explains that tenure holders are excluded from the regulation and raising concerns about ecosystem management, monitoring and enforcement.[1]

A speaker for the Denman Island Residents Association Marine Guardians Committee encouraged the committee to proceed with second reading and adoption. She said shellfish growers had been consulted, enforcement officers could inspect tenures without driving on the beach, and serious harm to fish or fish habitat was occurring.[1]

The minutes record the comments but do not record a decision on Bylaw No. 225 at that meeting.[1]
