Public comments recorded at the Denman Island Local Trust Committee’s November 14 meeting raised differing views about aquaculture applications and notification.[1]
A representative of the Association for Denman Island Marine Stewards said the committee should be notified of applications before decisions are made, and raised concern that tenure decisions were happening before the committee received notice.[1]
The minutes also record a trustee’s response that the committee receives timely email responses from Islands Trust staff after staff make technical comments to the relevant agencies about crown land tenure decision notifications.[1]
At an October meeting, a member of the public opposed referring proposed Bylaw No. 225 to all aquaculture tenure holders, saying an information note already made clear that tenure holders were excluded from the regulation. Another speaker, on behalf of the Denman Island Residents Association Marine Guardians Committee, urged the committee to proceed with second reading and adoption.[2]
