The Denman Island Local Trust Committee directed bylaw enforcement staff to institute a proactive policy for short-term vacation rentals, after discussing options including online searches for advertised rentals and letters to operators. [1]

Bylaw Enforcement Manager Miles Drew said staff could investigate without a specific complaint when rental operations are advertised. The minutes also record discussion of whether education should come before enforcement. [1]

The motion carried, with Local Trustee Laura Busheikin opposed; she said she would favour the approach only if it included an education component. [1]
