About 35 people attended an August 2 meeting at the Denman Activity Centre to discuss proposed changes under the Farm Plan Implementation Project. [1]
The proposals include a new agriculture designation in the Official Community Plan, changes to four Land Use Bylaw definitions, four new definitions and changes to setback requirements. [1]
Residents raised concerns about the proposed feedlot definition and setback, farm-status requirements for some provisions, the definition of immediate family and including cannabis production in the definition of intensive agriculture. [1]
Staff said the proposed 50-metre feedlot setback was a starting point for discussion and that the standard setback in that situation was 30 metres. Staff also said the definition of immediate family was provincially mandated and could not be expanded. [1]
The August 7 Local Trust Committee minutes record further public comments urging the committee to remove cannabis from the intensive-agriculture definition and address cannabis regulations as a separate project. [2]
