The Denman Island Local Trust Committee asks staff to prepare a draft bylaw for Temporary Use Permits for short-term vacation rentals and places the matter on its top priorities list. The decisions follow presentations about an enforcement letter concerning unlawful guest accommodation and concerns about short-term vacation rentals. [1] Trustee David Critchley says approximately twenty-six business operators on Denman Island received letters from Islands Trust Bylaw Enforcement after investigations into online advertising on sites such as Airbnb. [1]
The minutes say the committee’s initiative responds to concerns from local residents and aims to ensure compliance with existing bylaws and give people time and support to do so. [1] Trustee Laura Busheikin says it is not possible to rent a whole house for short-term rentals under the Official Community Plan and Land Use Bylaws. [1]
