The Islands Grapevine reports differing views on proposed Farm Plan implementation bylaws, with the disagreement also reflected in the Denman Local Trust Committee’s October 9 minutes.[1]
At an August 2 community information meeting, residents raised concerns about proposed definitions and regulations, including the definition of “feedlot” and the inclusion of cannabis production in “intensive agriculture.” The minutes say staff and trustees responded that the proposed changes were at an early stage and community input was being sought.[2]
At the October 9 meeting, one member of the public spoke against rushing the draft bylaws, saying residents needed more time to consider the changes. Another wanted the Growers and Producers Alliance definition of “Intensive Agriculture” adopted.[1]
The minutes record the comments and responses but do not establish which view is correct.[1]
