Residents raised concerns about short-term vacation rentals and proposed Farm Plan bylaws at the Denman Local Trust Committee’s October 9 meeting, according to the adopted minutes.[1]

The minutes say a resident asked about a letter from Islands Trust Bylaw Enforcement requiring removal of an Airbnb advertisement. Trustee David Critchley said approximately twenty-six Denman business operators had received letters following an investigation of online advertising; Trustee Laura Busheikin said the initiative came from the committee in response to residents’ concerns and aimed to support compliance with existing bylaws.[1]

The minutes also record a public comment opposing a rushed process for Farm Plan implementation bylaws, with the speaker saying residents needed more time to consider revisions. Another speaker wanted the Denman Island Growers and Producers Alliance definition of “Intensive Agriculture” adopted.[1]

The same meeting minutes record a presentation by the Denman Island Housing Association about its Denman Green affordable rental housing project and new funding opportunities.[1]
