The Denman Housing Association says its Denman Green project is taking shape, with site surveys, water planning and energy studies among the work completed or underway, according to an update by Simon Palmer in the April 18 newsletter.[1]
Palmer wrote that a study found the proposed 20-unit development, with a maximum population of 49, could meet its water needs by collecting and treating rainwater on site. He also said a solar study would inform plans for an array intended to meet the project’s energy needs year-round.[1]
The update says the project still requires rezoning and subdivision before site preparation and construction can begin. Palmer wrote that the application had been formally submitted to the Islands Trust on November 20, 2018, and described the process as barely underway five months later.[1]
The Local Trust Committee minutes from November 20 record that staff recommended the association provide further information on groundwater supply, sewage disposal and protection of environmentally sensitive areas. The minutes also record that the application sought to increase a receiver parcel’s density to a maximum of 25 dwellings, including 20 rent-controlled affordable homes.[2]
