A Denman residents’ committee working with a similar group on Hornby says the two groups have obtained grants totalling approximately $35,000 and raised another $15,000 from local sources for internet planning work.[1]
The committee says some of the grant money is being spent on a study by telecommunications engineers, called a Digital Map and Implementation Plan, and some on community consultation.[1]
The committee says it learned that Telus will not upgrade Denman’s copper-line service, and that changing to fibre-optic cable would be expensive for the company given the small, dispersed customer base.[1]
It says it plans to write about current internet options and possible improvements over the next few weeks, and will ask residents to show support through a survey, a meeting or both.[1]
