The Denman Island Residents Association approved forming a Climate Action Committee at a well-attended meeting on Sept. 9, according to a report in this week’s Grapevine. The report said a lecture by eco-futurist Guy Dauncey at the Denman Community Hall on Sept. 18 was the kickoff for an effort to involve the whole community.[1]
Dauncey proposed that Denman could demonstrate a move to what he called a new eco-civilization, and urged residents to commit to climate- and nature-friendly actions. The report said a sign-up sheet listed suggested actions for homes, businesses, forests, farms and gardens, shopping, waste and community engagement.[1]
The Grapevine reported Dauncey’s goal was for Denman to become the first community in the world to be 100% climate- and nature-friendly by 2025. That is a goal he proposed, not a completed result.[1]
