A fire consumed the 5,600-square-foot building at 1151 Northwest Road last Tuesday, in what The Islands Grapevine described as the largest structural fire in Denman’s history.[1]
Twenty-seven Denman Island Fire Rescue volunteers responded, and tankers came from Hornby Island and Fanny Bay. Fire crews protected nearby buildings and trees as wind helped spread the flames.[1]
The article said the fire call was closed at 6:36 p.m. Chief Luckett kept a fire watch through the night, and an excavator was brought in to dig out the smouldering site while firefighters applied water.[1]
The cause remained under investigation, the article reported, quoting Chief Luckett.[1]
