Letters in this week’s Islands Grapevine disagree over the proposed Bylaw Enforcement Notification (BEN) bylaw, with one writer opposing it and another supporting it.[1]
In a letter signed “Wesley Ritter,” the writer opposed the bylaw until bylaws affecting housing had been reviewed, and called for a public hearing, according to the June Local Trust Committee minutes, which record his comments at the meeting.[2]
The minutes say the committee gave the proposed bylaw three readings and forwarded it to the Islands Trust Executive Committee for approval. They also record a standing resolution directing staff to pursue enforcement against unlawful dwellings only under specified conditions.[2]
The Grapevine’s contents list a letter to the editor, but the supplied newsletter text does not include the letter’s contents or identify its position. The minutes record the committee’s actions, not the arguments in the letters.[1][2]
