Denman trustees reported that significant aquaculture debris had been observed on beaches after a recent storm, according to minutes of the Jan. 21 Local Trust Committee meeting. [1]
The minutes also record that trustees wanted to request a program of manual eradication on Tree Island and discuss a response with K’ómoks First Nation before drafting a letter. Trustee David Critchley offered to contact a K’ómoks First Nation Guardian Watchmen representative and report back at a future meeting. [1]
The issue followed a concern raised at the committee’s Nov. 7 meeting that herbicide spraying for spartina control on Tree Island had negative effects on sea asparagus and shellfish there. The minutes say trustees requested the matter be placed on the next meeting agenda. [2]
