Residents voiced opposing views about the proposed Denman Green project during the Denman Island Local Trust Committee’s May 19 meeting. The minutes record concerns about water use, density and the project’s fit with the island, alongside support for the application’s progress.[1]
One resident questioned proceeding after Island Health said rainwater collection was not a suitable primary source of potable water for a development of this size, according to the minutes. Others objected to electronic public meetings, while some supported electronic business meetings but opposed holding public hearings or community information meetings online.[1]
The minutes also record a request to adopt setbacks sought by the Denman Community Land Trust Association, with a speaker saying larger setbacks in the guidelines could compromise that project. Other comments opposed Denman Green, citing the proposed water consumption and density increase.[1]
The meeting record documents public comments; it does not record a decision on the Denman Green application at that meeting.[1]
