The Denman Island Local Trust Committee requests that a review of the Denman Island Official Community Plan and Land Use Bylaw be prioritized by Local Planning Services. The request is to be forwarded to the Director of Local Planning Services, the Executive Committee and the Local Planning Committee. [1]
Trustee Laura Busheikin said the OCP and LUB have not had a full review in approximately 20 years. She said targeted reviews had taken place, but that many elements were out of date, newer residents did not have a sense of ownership with the bylaws, and the list of LTC projects had grown too large for the LTC to address in a timely manner. [1]
Trustees discussed the reorganization of Local Planning Services, staffing levels, reviewing both documents to keep them synchronized, a general timeline and how to address ongoing specific bylaw changes during the review process. [1]
The committee also discussed possible bylaw amendments regulating travel trailers. Trustee David Critchley said current regulations permit travel trailers on small lots and that concerns brought to him included noise, unsightly situations and plant screening that can take years to attain an effective screening height. [1]
Trustees observed that “LUB amendments regarding the use of travel trailers” are on the Projects Report for addressing in the future. Some trustees preferred directing staff resources toward current Top Priority items and retaining the travel-trailer issue on the Projects Report rather than prioritizing amendments at this time. [1]
