The Denman Island Local Trust Committee held an online community information meeting on August 6 about the Denman Housing Association’s Denman Green application, with a presentation and public questions. [1]
The proposal includes 20 affordable rental homes on an eight-hectare portion of a receiving parcel, with a housing agreement intended to maintain affordability. The presentation said prospective renters would have to qualify for the BC Housing registry. [1]
The applicant had been asked for an updated sewage-disposal and grey-water-management report, and consultations on fire protection were under way. The minutes also say more information was needed before a public hearing could be scheduled. [1]
Water was among the questions raised. The applicant proposed rainwater collection as the primary source, with increased storage as backup; referral responses raised concerns about using rainwater as the primary potable-water source for a development of this size. The Advisory Planning Commission was to consider the proposed water source, daily-use budget and stored-water sufficiency. [1]
