The Denman Island Local Trust Committee defers further consideration of proposed bylaws for the Denman Green affordable housing project until the applicant secures source water approval from Island Health for primary and backup water supplies. [1]

The proposal is for a subdivision and development of 20 units of affordable rental housing. [1] The committee’s motion carried on September 8. [1]

The Denman Housing Association said reports and assessments, including a water plan, were completed or in process. It requested that the committee move forward with a public hearing, saying that awaiting Island Health approval could delay the process by 12 months. [1]

The minutes state that Island Health approval may not be granted if there are concerns, and that consultation with the community will be an important step in decision-making. [1]

The committee also requested staff prepare draft versions of the proposed bylaws incorporating requested changes before a Community Information Meeting, and prepare a plain-language guide and frequently asked questions for distribution ahead of that meeting. [1]
