Residents expressed both support and objections to the proposed Denman Green affordable housing project during a Sept. 8 Denman Island Local Trust Committee meeting, according to the minutes.[1]

Some speakers urged trustees to preserve the area’s Forestry zoning, opposed transferring density to the remainder parcel and said adding 25 densities would be unfair to people who moved to Denman for a rural lifestyle.[1]

Other speakers supported the project, saying Denman Island workers receiving low wages needed affordable housing.[1]

The minutes record that the meeting included public comments on the proposal; they do not record a decision on the project.[1]
