The Denman Island Residents Association Wildlife Advisory Committee is looking for at least one more volunteer after Chris Danks stepped back from her position as co-chair, according to a report by committee co-chair Peter Karsten in this week’s Grapevine.[1]
Karsten wrote that Danks had co-chaired the committee’s work on lost and stray dogs for decades and would continue to help with lost dogs. He said Edi Johnston, who had assisted Danks, was stepping up to the co-chair position.[1]
The committee’s Dog Team responds to reports of lost and stray dogs and dogs harassing wildlife, while its Deer Response Team responds to injured wildlife. Karsten urged residents to call committee volunteers about injured animals rather than relying on Facebook posts.[1]
Karsten also reported that he searched for an injured deer near the Denman and East Road corner after being called out at midnight on Dec. 16, but did not find it. He asked people who cannot stay with an injured animal to leave vegetation or weighted paper at the roadside to help volunteers locate it.[1]
