Denman trustees advance affordable housing bylaws to public hearing

The Local Trust Committee approved amendments to proposed bylaws and asked staff to schedule a public hearing before its March 16 meeting.

The Denman Island Local Trust Committee approved first reading, as amended, of a land-use bylaw for the Denman Community Land Trust Association project and second reading of its housing agreement bylaw. Staff were asked to schedule a public hearing before the March 16, 2021 regularly scheduled business meeting. ^[1]

The land-use bylaw amendment reduces the minimum lot size for the site-specific regulation from 0.8 hectares to 0.7 hectares. ^[1]

The housing agreement amendment increases the annual household income percentage used for affordable rental housing eligibility from 120% to 160%. ^[1]

The committee also approved a fence requirement to mitigate noise and dust between the driveway and the neighbouring property, and required reestablishment of the natural vegetated buffer between the property and the lot line. ^[1]

Trustees authorized up to $100 from the communications budget to publish a Question and Answer document in one edition of the Islands Grapevine before the scheduled Community Information Meeting. ^[1]
