A member of the public told the Denman Island Local Trust Committee on January 19 that evictions of occupants in non-compliant housing were occurring as a result of bylaw-enforcement actions, including to her and her daughter.[1]
The meeting minutes say the speaker reported trying to assist the committee in creating bylaws to improve the situation and asked what trustees would do to protect renters from eviction.[1]
A trustee said he was not familiar with the specific details of the evictions described, the minutes record, and noted that the committee had taken actions to support affordable housing; he also said he supported following bylaws in general.[1]
The minutes record the comments as part of the meeting’s town hall, not as a finding about the circumstances of any individual case.[1]
