A petition in this week’s Islands Grapevine asks for an immediate moratorium on enforcement of land-use bylaws that could result in evictions in any Denman housing.[1]
The petition calls for an Official Community Plan review involving a representative cross-section of residents, a targeted review of housing regulations in Land Use Bylaw 186, and new bylaws supporting affordable housing options.[1]
The notice says the petition is to be presented to the Denman Local Trust Committee on March 16, 2021.[1]
At its January 19 meeting, the committee heard a public comment objecting to evictions of occupants in non-compliant housing following bylaw-enforcement actions. A trustee said he was not familiar with the specific details described, noted that the committee had taken actions to support affordable housing, and said he supported following bylaws in general.[2]
