A letter from the Association for Denman Island Marine Stewards says islanders have been approaching the group about zap straps found on Denman beaches.[1]
The letter, dated March 8 and addressed to representatives of the BC Shellfish Growers Association and Fanny Bay Oysters, says the straps are used to attach oyster pouches and to secure plastic fencing and netting.[1]
The letter describes the straps as single-use items and says a garbage bin has been set up at the recycling centre to receive them.[1]
The January Local Trust Committee minutes record an earlier ADIMS concern about an aquaculture lease extending beyond its lease into W1 conservation waters. The minutes say a representative reported that Transport Canada had responded that rafts in marine channels would be removed if compliance was not achieved.[2]
