The Comox Valley Regional District celebrated the official opening of the Kirk Road stairs on April 29, describing them as a link between the Denman West ferry terminal and the commercial downtown core.[1]

The CVRD said the stairs provide a safer pedestrian passage and connect with the Denman Island Cross Trail, which it described as almost six kilometres long.[1]

The project was supported by CVRD Community Works Funds and completed by a Denman Island contractor, according to the district.[1]

The CVRD said the DIRA Trails Committee and a local contractor would maintain the stairs and the rest of the trail.[1]
