Volunteers installed three purple martin nest boxes on May 2, according to a report on the island’s nest-box project.[1]
The report said all boxes were occupied last year, but a set of three fell from its pulley system; five chicks drowned and one was rescued and nursed for release to the colony.[1]
The new boxes were made from cedar boards, and the report said purple martins had already inspected them when it was written.[1]
