The Denman Island Local Trust Committee approved two development variance permits at its July 6 meeting, according to the adopted minutes.[1]

One permit allows a kitchen addition at 5621 Lacon Road to be sited within 13.09 metres of the natural boundary of the sea, rather than the regulated 15.0 metres. The minutes say the addition was amended to 8’x24’.[1]

The committee also approved a permit for Pandesign Inc. to vary the minimum lot size for the residential portion of a split-zoned property at 1151 Kirk Road, permitting a subdivision as an initial step toward a proposed multi-unit affordable-housing project.[1]

The minutes say the variance would not increase density and that the residential lot would remain residential.[1]
