Denman Island mourns longtime resident William Slater

William Richard Slater died peacefully on August 2 at North Island Hospital Comox Valley, according to an obituary in this week’s Islands Grapevine. It says his three daughters were with him.[1]
The obituary says Slater retired in 1982 and moved to Denman Island full-time a few years later, where he built his house. It describes him as a longtime community member who enjoyed fishing, gardening and hosting summer parties and pancake breakfasts.[1]
A celebration of life is scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 28, at 2:30 p.m. at the Denman Island Community Hall, with the service outdoors, the notice says.[1]
