The Denman Island beach cleanup is moving into debris sorting after crews and volunteers collected material from shorelines, including piles reached by boat during the week of September 19, according to an update in the October 1 Grapevine.[1]
The Association for Denman Islands Marine Stewards coordinated the cleanup with the Great Canadian Shoreline Cleanup, the update said.[1]
The update said roughly 95% of the debris was aquaculture-industry related and thanked volunteers who walked beaches, worked on boats and drove trucks.[1]
Organizers are asking people able to spend a few hours to help sorting teams. The update says COVID protocols will be in place and gives Oyster Beach Farm, 2621 Northwest Road, as the drop-off area for collected debris; people are asked to email Liz Johnston before bringing new or remaining debris.[1]
