Denman housing proposal advances through first reading

The Local Trust Committee gave first reading to three bylaws for the Denman Housing Association proposal and deferred second reading while it awaits further information.

The Denman Island Local Trust Committee gave first reading to three bylaws for the Denman Housing Association housing proposal at its November 2 special meeting. The committee did not give second reading, saying referral responses, community input and pending documents and analysis could inform changes. ^[1]

The staff report listed outstanding items including approval for a water licence, confirmation of sewage disposal capacity for the Danes Road receiver parcels, a policy checklist and an internal review of the proposed water management plan. ^[1]

The applicant told the committee that the water plan had been submitted to Island Health, and that the wastewater system design would come in early 2022. The minutes record a trustee’s concern that documentation supporting key elements was lacking. ^[1]

The committee also deferred its response to the Islands 2050 bylaw referral until the formal consultation process for Denman Island is complete. ^[1]
