A letter in the January 20 Grapevine questioned whether the Islands Trust’s public budget survey could influence the adopted budget, arguing that its timing left little opportunity for results to affect the process.^[1]

The letter’s signer, Mairead Boland, wrote that she conducted a separate citizen survey and provided its results to the Financial Planning Committee for its January 19 meeting. She reported that 524 people had responded to her survey.^[1]

The committee minutes say the committee reviewed a draft public-engagement survey and requested that staff provide options for earlier consultation on the budget and budget process. The minutes also record that the committee discussed changes to the draft survey.^[2]
