Denman trustees endorse farming questionnaire and plan spring meeting

The questionnaire will be mailed to Denman residents and property owners, with up to $2,000 approved for advertising and direct mail.

The Denman Island Local Trust Committee generally endorses a farming-regulation community questionnaire, subject to changes discussed at its February 15 meeting, and directs staff to prepare a spring community information meeting. ^[1]

The questionnaire is to be mailed out, with an online version also planned. Trustees discuss establishing a drop-off location for paper responses. ^[1]

The committee approves releasing up to $2,000 from the Farming Regulation Review Project budget for advertising and direct mail to Denman Island residents and property owners. ^[1]

The questionnaire addresses definitions, secondary dwellings in the Agricultural Land Reserve, tourism accommodation in the Agricultural Land Reserve and temporary use permits. Trustees request changes including replacing “Denman Island Farm Bylaw” with “Denman Island Land Use Bylaw and Farming Regulations,” adding an explanation of the implications of not defining horticulture, and correcting information about bed-and-breakfast accommodation. ^[1]

The committee also directs staff to work with the consultant to schedule and advertise a special meeting for a community information meeting in the spring. ^[1]
