Denman bus service plans resident-focused summer pilot

Denman Works says a 14-seat community bus is scheduled to run from May 21 through Oct. 31, alongside a summer visitor service serving ferry runs.

Denman Island Bus Service plans to return this year with a community service focused on residents, according to an announcement in this week’s Grapevine. The pilot is scheduled to run from May 21 through Oct. 31, with a dedicated 14-seat bus on the island.^[1]

The announcement says the service is intended to cover the whole island, including the north end, and the bus may be available for events and particular needs such as a Wednesday blood-clinic run. An island taxi is also planned on a pilot basis through Ambassador Transportation.^[1]

A separate summer visitor service is scheduled to serve ferry runs from July 1 to Labour Day, Sept. 5, using a 17-passenger bus. The announcement says it will make a round trip every 45 minutes and that there will be no late Friday-night service because of a lack of riders last year.^[1]

Denman Works says it will manage the services, with Sam Borthwick filling a coordinator role and driving the community bus. The announcement says the Comox Valley Regional District is providing funding.^[1]
