The Denman Island Local Trust Committee held a public meeting on April 21 to present preliminary results from a questionnaire on farming regulations and answer questions from residents.[1]

Consultant Ione Smith said submissions were still being received. The results are to be analyzed and presented to the committee and the Advisory Planning Commission to inform next steps.[1]

The review covers farm-worker housing, agri-tourism accommodation, zoning updates and changes to the Official Community Plan. Questionnaire topics include agriculture definitions, housing in the Agricultural Land Reserve, tourist accommodation and setbacks from waterbodies.[1]

Questions at the meeting included how regulations might affect greenhouses, wetlands, farm-worker housing and enforcement. The minutes record answers from the consultant, planner or trustees, including that local regulations cannot restrict intensive agriculture inside the Agricultural Land Reserve and that drainage is allowed there as an agricultural use.[1]
