Housing and land-use enforcement were subjects of public comment recorded in Denman Island Local Trust Committee minutes and in a letter published in the May 26 issue of The Islands Grapevine. [1][2]
At a March 22 committee meeting, town hall speakers raised concerns about a lack of affordable rental housing and said enforcement of non-permitted housing was contributing to staffing shortages at local businesses. The minutes also record a request to review restrictions on small housing options. [1]
The minutes say Trustee Busheikin had forwarded a letter encouraging officials to undertake a feasibility study for a Denman housing service, and that funding for a feasibility study had been approved by the Comox Valley Regional District. [1]
The Grapevine issue includes a notice inviting people to work at the Denman General Store post office, but it does not include a letter about a housing service or a housing disagreement. [2]
