About 35 members of the public attended a May 30 community information meeting at Denman Community Hall on proposed bylaw changes for the Denman Housing Association’s Denman Green project.[1]
The meeting reviewed proposed changes to the Official Community Plan and Land Use Bylaw, along with a proposed housing agreement. The agreement described in the minutes would require 20 units to be rented to qualified occupants at an affordable rate and require annual reporting to the Islands Trust.[1]
Questions at the meeting included water use, the proposed well and effects on adjacent water users. The minutes say the water licence application was with the Province, which would review impacts on adjacent water users; they also record that a professional hydrogeologist engaged by the association had reviewed the well’s impact on pressure or yield on adjacent properties and expressed no concern.[1]
The May 31 Local Trust Committee minutes record that the committee received a petition signed by hundreds of Denman residents and non-resident property owners asking for changes to bylaws concerning secondary dwellings on Agricultural Land Reserve lands. The petition asked that those dwellings not be used for vacation or other short-term rentals.[2]
