A petition presented to the Denman Island Local Trust Committee asked for bylaws to align with provincial Agricultural Land Reserve regulations allowing secondary dwellings on all ALR lands, without additional restrictions beyond provincial rules. ^[1]

The petition also asked that the dwellings not be used for vacation or other short-term rentals, and sought changes to support secure housing for Denman Island residents. ^[1]

At a July 27 special meeting, trustees and staff discussed community support for additional water and septic requirements for secondary dwellings on ALR properties. The minutes say staff could report back with recommendations on mechanisms and requirements. ^[2]
