Denman Island Fire Rescue is promoting a free wood-chipping program intended to remove wood debris that could spread wildfire to homes and other structures. [1]
Residents who want to participate are asked to place bundles by the road by the morning of October 24. The notice says branches must be under 16 centimetres in diameter and under 10 metres long. [1]
The program excludes treated lumber, leaf piles, grass clippings and invasive species listed in the notice. It also says bundles must be stacked with branch ends facing the same direction. [1]
Fire Rescue is also seeking volunteers for frontline firefighter, first-responder and auxiliary roles, with an open house scheduled at the firehall on October 15. [1]
