The Denman Island Local Trust Committee amended proposed farming-bylaw wording on setbacks for agricultural buildings and structures, excluding fences, at a special meeting recorded in minutes dated October 6 and October 14.[1]
The minutes say trustees had asked staff to bring back information on setbacks from watercourses. Staff reported that a comprehensive review of setbacks and Development Permit Areas was outside the project’s scope, and that the BC Ministry of Environment’s Agricultural Environmental Management Code of Practice sets setbacks for water protection on farmland.[1]
Trustee David Critchley moved to add an information note about fence setbacks under the Code of Practice, but the motion did not receive a seconder. The committee then carried a motion replacing the text in sections 1.7 and 1.8 with a 30-metre setback for agricultural buildings and structures, except fences.[1]
The minutes also record that trustees discussed further amendments to the draft bylaw. The document includes a heading for the October 14 reconvened meeting, but the supplied text ends during the next motion and does not record its outcome.[1]
